Venice, 2nd part
5 months after our post about the first part of our trip to Venezia, here’s finally the second part!
In terms of weather, we were luckier on this second day. We still had some rain in the morning so I played safe and bought a really ugly rain poncho! Not very sexy but really efficient. That day for the carnival was the eagle jump on Piazza San Marco and I had booked tickets online. It was still raining at that point but it was nice to be there. First there was a costumes contest where we could vote (only possible if you paid and therefore were in the “VIP” section with seat and direct access to the stage). Then there was the famous “eagle jump” and it was performed this year by an Italian olympic champion and she came down to the stage with zip-wire from the Campanile di San Marco. We really were at the heart of the carnival!
After that, we had lunch at Dal Moro’s – Fresh Pasta To Go, a place where you should definitely eat if you ever go to Venezia and wants to eat quickly. They’re first on Trip Advisor and we understood why. It’s very small and only take-away but the pastas are delicious!
We then continued to walk around the quartier San Marco area and we did some shopping, including a mask for both of us!
Later we wanted to cross the water and see the Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute. We did not want to spend 80 euros for 30 minutes in a gondola so we took the cheap option which is a kind of gondola “public transport” which allows you to go on the other side for about 1€ if I can remember well! If you just want the experience of being on a gondola and not be ripped off, then I advise you to do that! I think there are several spots where you can cross but the one we used was located there.
We walked around most Venice the rest of the afternoon going through the Dorsoduro area, San Polo, San Marco again up to Saint Helena on the East side where our hotel was.
We were tired but we still went to the restaurant and Niko had a pizza and I had a calzone! Finally, I’ll leave you with a picture of Niko and I at the end of the day.
